Vegan Dal Makhani

We are all for devouring this vegan dal makhani as a mid-week feast.

Supplies

  • 1 tbsp tea leaves
  • 1 tbsp tamarind
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 4-5 cloves
  • 4-5 bay leaves
  • 3-4 black cardamom
  • 2 cups soaked whole black gram
  • ¼ cup kidney beans
  • Salt to taste
  • 1tbsp oil
  • 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1 cup chopped onions
  • 1tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • 1tbsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1 cup chopped tomatoes
  • Cooked beans
  • Fresh coriander
  • 2 tbsp coconut milk

Steps

  1. In a muslin cloth put all whole spices, tamarind and tea leaves and make a potli out of it.
  2. In a pressure cooker add beans, salt and potli and pressure cook for 20-25 minutes.
  3. Remove the potli and keep aside.
  4. In a kadai add oil, ginger garlic paste and onion sauté for a min.
  5. Add powder spices and sauté well. Add tomatoes in it and mix well.
  6. Add cooked beans and cook for some time.
  7. Add salt as required.
  8. Add cream and coriander and mix well.
  9. Garnish with coconut milk and coriander.
  10. Serve.
