  • 1/2 cup roasted sesame seeds
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup red chilli
  • 2-3 strings curry leaves
  • 1/3 cup urad dal
  • 1/2cup chana dal
  • 1 tsp oil
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • 1/2 tsp asafoetida powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt as per taste
  • 1 tsp gun powder

Steps

  1. Firstly, in a heavy-bottomed pan add sesame seeds and dry roast till they turn golden brown.
  2. Keep aside.
  3. Further, add 2 tsp oil and fry dried red chilli, curry leaves, urad dal, chana dal
  4. Transfer to a blender and blend to a coarse powder.
  5. In an idli steamer brush some oil. Add the idli batter and steam it on a medium flame for 15 min
  6. Then, in a tawa or pan take a tsp of ghee.
  7. Once the ghee melts, coat mini idlis.
  8. Warm the idlis on both sides by flipping occasionally.
  9. Further add asafoetida powder, turmeric powder, salt and gunpowder.
  10. Toss and coat the idlis with podi masala on both sides.
  11. Fry the idli for a minute, making sure the idli gets warm inside as well.
  12. Finally, serve the idlis.
